  1. American Animals

    June 29, 2018, 7:00 PM

American Animals is the unbelievable but entirely true story of four young men who attempt to execute one of the most audacious art heists in U.S. history. The film centers around two friends from the suburbs of Lexington, Kentucky. Spencer (Barry Keoghan), and his closest friend, Warren (Evan Peters). As they leave the suburbs for universities in the same town, the realities of adult life begin to dawn on them and with that, the realization that their lives may in fact never be important or special in any way. Determined to live lives that are out of the ordinary, they plan the brazen theft of some of the world’s most valuable books. Enlisting two more friends and taking their cues from heist movies, they plot the theft and subsequent fence of the stolen artworks. Unfolding from multiple perspectives, and innovatively incorporating the real-life figures at the heart of the story, writer-director Bart Layton (The Imposter) takes the heist movie into bold new territory. 2. Re-Animator

    June 29, 2018, 10:00 PM

Presented by the American Genre Film Archive. Director Stuart Gordon and producer Brian Yuzna’s joint debut feature, this epochal, awe-inspiring amalgam of FRANKENSTEIN, THE BEYOND, and REVENGE OF THE NERDS is where science meets chaos to produce an hyperactive overdose of gruesome insanity. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) is a new Miskatonic University student who also moonlights as a mad scientist, intent on perfecting a serum that “re-animates” corpses. Soon, everyone wants a piece of the action, including an evil professor and his army of slime-covered deadites. With berserker theatrics, career-defining roles from horror icons Combs and Barbara Crampton, and a scene of two adults chasing an undead cat in a basement, RE-ANIMATOR isn’t just a masterpiece of the horror genre -- it’s a masterpiece of life. R / 104 min. The Late Show: Because Awesome Movies are Awesome.
