[ARCHIVED] Normal Theater reopening Oct. 1

Normal Theater reopening Oct. 1

The Normal Theater reopens for in-person showings Thursday, Oct. 1, just in time for the venue’s popular annual Manhattan Short Film Festival.

Closed since March 13 for in-person film screenings, the Normal Theater used direct input from a public survey to better serve patrons and address concerns.

“We know the Normal Theater offers an important escape for many members of our community," said Adam Fox, Civic Arts Manager for the Town of Normal. "We are excited to welcome audiences back into the building. For us, the biggest question has been how to do that while making sure everyone's health and safety is our top priority.”

Upon reopening, the theater will operate at a reduced capacity of 50 guests. To maintain appropriate physical distancing, all seating will be assigned. Tickets can be purchased in-person at the box office 30 minutes prior to show time, or online at Patrons can select seats with either option, but purchasing online secures preferred seating and avoids missing sold-out shows.

For the health and well-being of theater patrons and staff:

    masks are required at all times in the theater, including when seated for the show;

    concessions will not be available for purchase;

    outside food & beverages remain prohibited; and

    to further reduce contact, the theater will not accept cash.

The Normal Theater will reopen with the 2020 edition of the Manhattan Short Film Festival, with shows at 7 p.m. Oct. 1-4, and at 3 p.m. on Oct. 3 & Oct. 4. Following that, the theater will begin the run up to Halloween with all-ages favorites such as BEETLEJUICE and LABYRINTH, annual traditions like THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, and new release independent horror titles.

The theater continues to offer Online Screenings to serve patrons not yet comfortable returning to in-person screenings. To view available online screening titles, visit and choose “Online Screenings” from the main menu. Follow the process to get virtual tickets.
